A peak into l’aula d’italiano (the Italian classroom)

We are off to a great start to the term with each grade busy improving their Italian skills.

Prep students have finished a unit of work on Pinocchio in which they learnt about the story of Pinocchio and also learnt nouns for parts of ‘il corpo’ (the body). They are now beginning to exploring animal names and sounds in Italian. Did you know that in Italy the sounds people think of when they think of different animals are sometimes different to the sounds we think of? Listen to ‘Il suono dei animali’ below

Grade 1/2 students finished a unit on ‘Cosa ti piace fare?’ (What do you like doing?), they are now focusing on ‘I Contrari’ (opposites). They are learning words for opposites and extending their learning by writing sentences in which they describe objects using opposites language.

Writing sentences using ‘i contrari’ (opposites)

Grade 3/4 are exploring ‘la frutta’ (fruit), they are developing their grammatical knowledge as well as their vocabulary. Students will write and perform a role play between themselves and a ‘fruttivendolo’ (a greengrocer).

Grade 5/6 are exploring the ‘Casa in vendita’ (house of sale) topic, they are learning language and developing their grammatical knowledge in an effort to write their own short advertisement for a house they are selling.
