Principal’s Update 22 August

It has been a busy few weeks at Belle Vue Primary School, with our recent school athletics carnival and our Belle Vue Olympics event, 100 days of Prep and more recently our science incursions and our Maths Mania afternoon  Please ensure to keep up to date with COMPASS and to ensure consent for excursions/incursions are provided within this platform.

It was inspirational to listen to Michele Timms speak to our students recently about her experiences as a former Olympian. It is truly special to know her basketball days started here at Belle Vue Primary School on the same court our students still use.  Her message of resilience and overcoming adversity was a really positive message for our students to hear and take away.

I really appreciate the community’s understanding and cooperation in our decision to lock our gates during school hours and this has seen a drop in unknown members of the local community using our school as a thoroughfare between Highview and Bulleen Roads.

Our school is open  and accessible during the weekends. The main gates on Highview Road are not locked and we welcome families to continue using our grounds and facilities out of school hours.

I look forward to an enjoyable evening of fun, laughter and games at our community fundraiser tomorrow night. Thank you everyone who has purchased tickets, raising important funds for our students.

SCHOOL PRODUCTION – THE GREAT PRIMARY SCHOOL MYSTERY

We look forward to presenting our first school wide performance of this type in several years and this is an exciting opportunity for our students to be part of a live, onstage performance. All students are expected to attend and participate as part of the arts curriculum. Students have started learning their dances today, so this will add to the excitement for all involved.

BELLE VUE PRIMARY SCHOOL’S COMMITTMENT TO CHILD SAFETY

Belle Vue PS is a child safe organisation which welcomes all children, young people and their families. We have no tolerance for child abuse and take proactive steps to identify and manage any risks of harm to students in our school environment.

We are committed to providing environments where our students are safe where their participation is valued, their views respected, and their voices are heard about decisions that affect their lives. Particular attention will be paid to the cultural safety of Aboriginal children and children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds, as well as the safety of children with a disability.

Our child safe policies, strategies and practices are inclusive of the needs of all students.

Child safety is a shared responsibility. Every person involved in our school has an important role in promoting child safety and wellbeing and promptly raising any issues or concerns about a child’s safety.

In its planning, decision-making and operations, Belle Vue Primary School will:

· Establish a culturally safe environment in which the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal children and young people are respected and valued.

· Ensure that child safety and wellbeing are embedded across all levels of school leadership, governance and culture.

· Empower students to participate in decisions affecting them.

· Engage families and communities to promote child safety and wellbeing.

· Ensure equity is upheld and diverse needs are respected both in policy and practice.

· Ensure that all members of the community working with children are suitable and supported to reflect child safety and wellbeing practice.

· Ensure that processes for complaints are child focused.

· Provide all staff and volunteers with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children safe.

· Promote safety and wellbeing in both physical and online environments.

· Regularly review our child safe practices and policies and improve as required.

· Implement child safe practices.

· Share information appropriately and lawfully with other organisations where the safety and wellbeing of children is at risk.

· Ensure children know who to talk with if they are worried or are feeling unsafe, and that they are comfortable and encouraged to raise such issues.

· Report suspected abuse, neglect or mistreatment promptly to the appropriate authorities.

WELCOME BACK MS WOODHOUSE

A warm welcome back to Ms Woodhouse who has returned from her recent Long Service Leave. Prep W have been enjoying hearing about Ms Woodlouse’s travels and experiences at the Paris Olympics. I know our preps are very happy to have her back and thank you to Ms Jazmin Whitford who did a wonderful job supporting our preps and continuing their learning while Ms Woodhouse was away.
